Park to Surround Union Ship Canal
Coming soon, a new park that surrounds the former Union Ship Canal.
Officials from the Buffalo Urban Development Corp. said they expect the 20-acre park, a central amenity to the Buffalo Lakeside Commerce Park, to welcome its first users later this month. The park, which rings the Union Ship Canal, has been in development for nearly two years.
The green space features walking paths and a 200-foot walking bridge that crosses the canal. The bridge is being constructed in Pennsylvania and is expected to be delivered and installed within the next few weeks. Once the bridge is installed, the park should be open, said Peter Cammarata, Buffalo Urban Development Corp. president.
Buffalo Lakeside Commerce Park, an industrial and office park that straddles the Buffalo-Lackawanna municipal border along Route 5, is home to such companies as Sonwil Distribution Center, Cobey and CertainTeed.
The office park rings the 23-foot Union Ship Canal and has taken more than 200 acres of long empty industrial-based property and brought it back to life.
