The South Buffalo Brownfield Opportunity Area (BOA) takes advantage of the New York State Dept. of State's Brownfield Opportunity Area program, which seeks to develop and realize a community vision for brownfield redevelopment within a designated area. Encompassing approximately 2,000 acres, the South Buffalo BOA includes land situated near the shores of Lake Erie and the Buffalo River. This land, which is well-serviced and located within the urban core, presents an immense redevelopment opportunity for the City of Buffalo and the Buffalo-Niagara region as a whole. By adhering to the guidelines of the South Buffalo BOA, projects in this area will serve to transform the image of the area by removing the remnants of former industrial uses and focusing on a number of guidelines. Developments will emphasize growing economic sectors, enhance the natural environment, strengthen existing and new communities and create vibrant and complete ‘Main Street' corridors. The BOA continues to guide development of separate projects within its boundaries, including the Buffalo Lakeside Commerce Park and the RiverBend Commerce Park.
