Genesee Gateway

BUDC is working with a group of developers to support a redevelopment project along an important stretch of road in downtown Buffalo. A long-dormant group of buildings along Genesee Street is in the process of being transformed into the Genesee Gateway project. Genesee Gateway LLC is investing more than $10 million to rehabilitate the buildings into a mixed-use project with residential, office and retail components. BUDC will serve as the pass-through agent for a $200,000 grant from National Grid's Main Street/Commercial District Revitalization Program. The project will also be receiving financial support from the Erie County IDA.

Taking advantage of the recent private investments in the area, BUDC is commissioning an urban design plan on the revitalization of Genesee Street from Oak Street to Washington Street. The design study, which will be partially funded by M&T Bank, CityView Development and Iskalo Development, seeks to complement the redevelopment of buildings along Genesee Street. Through various streetscape improvements, the project seeks to improve pedestrian safety, beautify the area and encourage further private investment, thereby transforming the area into a true gateway for Downtown Buffalo.
