ECIDA Wins National Award for Bethlehem Steel Site Project


The ECIDA and the Erie County Department of Environment and Planning received the 2014 Excellence in Economic Development Award from the International Economic Development Council for their work on the Bethlehem Steel site's Bethlehem Rail Relocation project.

ECIDA Loan Helps Niagara Lubricant Rebuild Buffalo Plant

On July 17 Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz, City of Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown, our own President and CEO Steve Weathers, and a host of community leaders gathered at Niagara Lubricant to tour their new East Side facility. The ECIDA loaned $150,000 for the purchase of new equipment, and brought Niagara Lubricant together with the National Development Council, who were able to finance an additional $2.1 million loan through the Grow America Fund. The loans helped owner Leon Smith III relocate and rebuild after the 2011 fire that devastated his former Black Rock facility.

Are you a city, town, village, for-profit entity, non-profit corporation or an IDA seeking low-interest gap financing to improve your downtown? If you are located within the five county Western NY region (Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie or Niagara Counties), the Downtown Revitalization Loan Fund may be the answer for you. This Western Region Corporation (WRC) fund provides loans up to $500,000 for revitalizing downtown commercial center buildings and locations in accordance with the locally approved master or strategic economic development plan. Eligible projects include redevelopment of existing buildings and the development of new downtown commercial center buildings.
